University Health Inc. voted Thursday to spend $1.2 million on 40 acres north of Thomason to build a new McDuffie Regional Medical Center, reports the Augusta Chronicle.

The Georgia Attorney General’s office must approve the sale.

A public hearing is March 29 in Thomason. Officials said they expect complaints from people who prefer to keep the hospital in downtown Thomason.
